You may find that Pinnacle Studio does not support MTS video format. Thus, Canon XA10 MTS files must first be converted into a supported video file type before Pinnacle Studio can import them. Below is the how to.

Different from the MXF footages shot by Canon XF100, the XA10 is capturing AVCHD video at bitrates up to 24Mbps. Besides, the camcorder’s native 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor also lets you choose 60i, 24p, PF30, and PF24 frame rates for customizing the look of your footage. All of these fantastic features makes it easy for you to record your memory into Canon XA10′s memory card vividly. You should have been satisfied with the XA10 until you meet the ingesting problem while importing AVCHD footages to Pinnacle Studio for adding some effects, as some XA10 user mentioned below:

Q: No Audio In Canon XA10 Avchd Clip?
"Hello, my camcorder is a Canon XA10 and it records in AVCHD format. The audio plays in windows media player. It is 2 channel audio. But whenever i import the video into Pinnacle Studio and place the clip into a composition the audio component is missing and there is no waveform at all. I dont know what is wrong with my Pinnacle. I have Pinnacle Studio 16 and it worked fine up until last month. I cant get it to work please help!"

The reason of this problem lies on the huge file size of AVCHD format. Moreover, AVCHD is not the most compatible format for the Pinnacle Studio. There is no doubt that it will take more time on rendering while importing AVCHD files in the Pinnacle. Well, if you wanna edit Canon XA10 AVCHD in Pinnacle Studio in an easier and quicker way, you'd better transcode the AVCHD .mts/.m2ts to Pinnacle Studio favorable formats like AVI, WMV, etc.
